What does every owner of an angel in disguise need?
A digital camera, of course!! I bought one today. Here are my first pictures June 19,2001
Mama is caught in the act of not being an angel.
She is happy and playing. That's what's important.
"Go Away Lady Person"
Mama is on her favorite chair again. She is alert and knows
that I am watching her. See how her crest feathers are
standing up?By understanding a parrot's body language, you can avoid being
bitten. She is in the process of her spring molt and new feathers are
growing in.That's why her feathers look all choppy. You can see
the prickly new pin feathers on her head
in the next picture.Pin feathers are very stiff. When the stiff keratin coating is
shed, a beautiful new feather emerges.
Alone at Last.
Party Time!
Well, well, well, Mama has found something to play with. She could have
easily chosen an electrical wire instead, so she must be watched carefully.
She is oblivious that I am only 3 feet away. See how her crest is down?
This means that she is not afraid and
relaxed. I should put up a sign that reads
"Do not disturb." Disturbing during playtime=biting.
Many of her favorite toys are also made of cloth.
I love her more than a pair of curtains so she can chew
as much as her little heart desires.
In the second picture Mama has moved from the chair to the windowsill. I
have no idea why she is chewing
on the highest spot she could reach. Perhaps it feels good to stretch her neck.
Whatever reason, she does look precious.
Mama is a delicate chewer. She has never made a hole in a curtain yet. I opened this curtain
for some sunlight. The flowers in the picture are artificial. I
don't keep houseplants because many are toxic.
Playtime is Over
Getting a former biting bird into the cage is simple.
You can read the steps I took on the page
"Stop the Biting." These 3 pictures show Mama going
back into her cage on command. I simply tell her to
"Go Home." I may have to say it a couple of times, but wouldn't you
rather sit by a window than be in a cage?
Do I have to?
Oh,Nutriberries!
And I think, why didn't I get a digital camera a long time ago?
